LSU manufactured a procedurally sound victory yesterday over the Houston Cougars, 5-1, to send the Tigers into the Championship round of the Baton Rouge Regional. Aaron Nola pitched well despite a rocky second inning where he needed a diving catch from Alex Bregman to end a two-out, bases loaded threat. Nola then continued on, being relieved only in the 8th inning after pitching 7.1 innings, striking out 7, walking one and giving up only one earned run. Joe Broussard entered in the ninth to close out the game. Connor Hale had two RBI while Bregman, Mark Laird and Sean McMullen added one run each. Houston only mustered five hits against Nola and were unable to do anything offensively after the second inning threat.
